Event Description

Join us for a 90 minute film exploring permaculture in the United States today.

What is Permaculture?
Permaculture is a creative design process which guides us to mimic the patterns and relationships we can find in nature. They can be applied to all aspects of human habitation, from agriculture to ecological building, from appropriate technology to education and even economics.

Permaculture encourages us to:

  • Observe and interact
  • Catch and store energy
  • Obtain a yield
  • Apply self regulation and accept feedback
  • Use and value renewable resources and services
  • Produce no waste
  • Design from patterns to details
  • Integrate rather than segregate
  • Use small and slow solutions
  • Use and value diversity
  • Use edges and value the marginal
  • Creative use and respond to change

What is Transition?
Transition Towns have roots in permaculture principles. They are self-organized groups which focus on building resilience and reducing fossil fuel usage.

Transition Milwaukee gathers monthly at the Urban Ecology Center with a "HUB" meeting to connect, learn, and share. All are welcome to join the gathering on the fourth Monday of each month.
