Friday, September 26 | 1:00 PM Times Cinema
Monday, October 06 | 4:15 PM Landmark Oriental

Eight-year-old Peyangki is sent by his mother to study in the isolation of a mountain monastery in their home of Bhutan, but he’d much rather spend his time in this isolated idyll playing instead of learning. Meanwhile, a 1999 edict from Bhutan’s king that approves the spread of electricity, television, and Internet through the nation takes effect—a development that Peyangki welcomes with open arms. Brilliantly playing the striking images of its young protagonist immersed in beautiful natural landscapes against the slowly encroaching promise of technology, "Happiness" questions the importance of technological progress in a country that tracks its progress through “Gross National Happiness.”
