Transition Milwaukee

Rebuilding Community Resilience & Self-Reliance

Hi everyone - Happy New Year.

Transition Wisconsin currently exists for the purpose of initiating fiscal support for Transition Initiatives within the badger state.  Isn't that wonderful?  Because they are just beginning their journey down the grant seeking path, they are asking Transition Milwaukee what types of initiatives or projects TM would use grant money for.  This is an attempt to ask YOU what your dream resiliency enhancing project is that would require money.

Please submit in this forum how you would use grant money to increase our resiliency.

This is a great idea Jess....I am excited to hear people's ideas.  There is a vacant home across from my house that is boarded up. It has a fenced in yard and amazing southern exposure for the city. I think it's a duplex and had a detached garage. I dream about creating it into a community house or sustainable education center / community incubator space... something of the sort.... really i dream of a planting a food forest, installing rainwater catchment, having chickens and teaching people about gardening and sustainability there.... on the home scale so that it is accessible to home owners. I know there are a lot of similar projects around (or are there?) but this house is asking for this...

Probably the biggest thing would be - to help inform the general public of the concerns we face, and programs, information - alternative ways to live, to become better prepared and adapt.

Thanks,

Bob Tilden

if anyone has energy around this... please contact me.

More reskilling workshops and ways for people to use their skills collectively.  Someone mentioned to me recently that we should have a lending library of tools that make our lives more sustainable.

I think one of the really good ways to broaden our public base is to use some money for more "hard media" -- by that I mean more posters (large and weatherproof) - maybe even a couple of billboards??? -- to let people know we exist and to encourage more people to attend our meetings.  I really like the way we have been operating so far (i.e., on little or no money and on volunteer hours and contributions) and I understand that may not be the best way - but I am suspicious of money and have low trust that grant money will get used the way it is intended - investing in something we can all literally see (like a billboard, or huge signs for the People's Parade, etc., or for good presence in other parades -- and how about all the festivals at the Summerfest grounds - money could be used to purchase space at those to disseminate info), might be a really good option.

It would be a dream come true when grey water system solution 4 homes could be harvested.

Similar to what they do in Australia. Imagine!
