City Chicken Ordinances

Learn about the benefits of keeping chickens in the city.

The City of Milwaukee has passed an ordinance supporting the keeping of up to 4 hens and no roosters.  Milwaukee now has a whole page that talks about what is required.  Their is also a google group that has been set up.

A village committee in Shorewood recently halted efforts to change the ordinance there, but residents are considering other avenues of action. To get involved, join the Shorewood Chickens Google group. This group also has a page on Facebook.

If you live in Wauwatosa and would like to get involved in this issue, consider joining the Tosa Chickens Facebook page.

Our chicken coop at Casa Maria is now finished and the hens are happy.  Got permit #14 from the City.  Permies.com had a funny comic on raising chickens today.

Common Council meeting on May 24th 2011 with the hens ord on the agenda.   Alderman Kovac's latest comment in support of the ordinance is:  We now have 5 co-sponsors, so we just need 3 of the other 10 to vote yes and we can pass this at the May 24th Council meeting... No testimony will be taken on the 24th, so more important than being there that morning is contacting your alder between now and then... spread the word now is the time to contact them!
