Compost Collective

I created this group because it looks like we are starting to gain a lot traction for this project. I think we need to start brainstorming ideas as a group and take action on them.

Sarah, should I change the name on the Compost Map? Post Carbon Farm is what it was called when I created the map almost 2 years ago.

The Post Carbon Farm has tons of space for as much spent grain as you can get.

I don't know about the All People's Church site as I haven't been there in over a year.

Sarah/All:

I found information that Concordia Gardens is at the T intersection of Concordia and Palmer.  How many buckets of brewery waste would you need?  Remember, this stuff heats up a LOT, and if not mixed with a good amount of carbon, you could end up with a lot of ash instead of good compost.

I gathered up 10 buckets, and I will need 3 for my pile.  So, I can deliver up to 7 buckets to Concordia and other compost operations.

I see a "Post Carbon Farm" on the Compost Map, betwn Palmer and Richards, is that on operating farm with compost needs?  And how about All People's Church on 2nd & Clark?

Umm...  Initially, I was thinking every 2 months or so as I need it for my piles.  But if there's a need for more deliveries, perhaps once a month or biweekly if I can get my family involved :D.

Barb, Melissa,  I think we should get you Barb officially in the MCCN. :) when you say you would be willing to do a drop off, does that mean one time or would you be willing to do one once a week, once a month..?  you can look at the, map see if there are some drop off points that look good to you, in relation to home and the pick up spot, than Melissa can get you down as a regular...  Ofcourse i will plug Concordia Gardens and say we would love if you brought us some!

That would be awesome Barb!  I guess which community pile you contribute to depends on where you live.  I think Joe at one point posted on this site a great compost map.  That should indicate a lot of the personal and community compost piles that may be willing to take you up on that offer.  Would you mind sharing the contact with me as well?  MCCN *Milwaukee Community Compost Network) has some volunteers that do frequent pick-ups in that area.  We may be able to help them with gid rid of lots o brewers mash.  It is great stuff!  Thanks for the generocity and shout out...

Anyone starting a community (or personal) compost bin and need brewery waste?  I discovered a very willing brewery in the 3rd ward, and I plan to pick some up in the next week or two.  I personally can only take 2 or 3  5-gallon buckets at a time, but they kept offering me more.  I can pick up and deliver a few buckets to a site in Milwaukee if anyone wants me to.

If anyone knows of someone who can weld a sturdy bike trailer here in Milwaukee, I would be happy to use it for the collective as soon as I move to the East Side. From what I've read, it shouldn't be more than 100$. If we were all to chip into the cost we could soon make our money back and have a trailer available.
