The Transition process is about powering down, using far less energy than we do now, but it is also about powering up -- relearning lost skills for self-sufficiency to make our communities more resilient.

Local Resources

Bucketworks acts as a creative incubator and hosts space for woodworking, pottery, painting, sewing, silkscreening, etc.

The Cream City Collectives is a collection of groups that share resources to "provide an accessible community space that will allow for the creation and diffusion of knowledge, ideas and skills, specifically for the growth of radical and progressive social change."

Growing Power offers tours and workshops demonstrating methods for community food production, including aquaculture, hoophouses, and vermiculture.

The Michael Fields Agricultural Institute offers a variety of workshops & learning experiences in organic agriculture.

The Milwaukee Bike Collective is a place where people can learn bike repair and construction in exchange for volunteering at the Collective.

The Urban Ecology Center offers many relevant workshops and classes, including food preservation, composting, foraging, fishing, a knitting circle, etc.

Online Resources

Bikes Not Bombs contains an extensive list of appropriate technologies, including pedal-powered machines, cargo trailers, etc.

Journey to Forever contains plans for many low-tech projects used in traditional cultures.

Moonwise Herbs is a community resource offering earth centered education. Programs include: Herbal Wisdom, Herbal Medicine, Whole, Local and Wild Food collection and preparation. Maple sugaring, Basketry, Permaculture, Wise Woman Ways, Compassionate Communication and much more.
