"Well I think a lot of the people involved in Transition Milwaukee live in that area already so I'm not sure that there is a separate group.  But hopefully we can collaborate and work with the school. Neal"

Profile Information

Why are you interested in the Transition movement?
It feels right. I have kids and I want them to inherit healthy ideals about how to treat our planet and each other. I'd like to raise them to be self sufficient cogs in an interdependent community of people.
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
We are attempting to grow and preserve my own food and teach that skill to my kids. We are aware of our footprint and try to reduce the amount of time we are in the car. We belong to a vibrant Montessori school community that values volunteer work, interdependence, and grassroots organizations. We devote alot of time to them and they are teaching our kids those values too.
What skills, talents, and resources do you bring to the Transition movement?
I am very interested in self-knowledge. I spend a lot of my time learning self-sufficiency insofar as not being a part of our consumer driven extractive economy. I love to co-learn and teach with others on the same path. I am an experienced mama and would love to work with other families to build community values and co-dependence so we can all make the most of our precious hours (i.e, babysitting swaps, etc) My husband is a landscape architect who will soon be permaculture certified so we have that to offer too
Which topics within Transition most interest you, and what are you most interested in getting out of your involvement in the Transition Movement?
I am definitely interested in "urban homesteading" to the best of my ability. I would love to gain more skills insofar as that. I'd like to do more to reduce my energy footprint. Most of all, I would find it extraordinarily valuable to build partnerships and friendships with other people and families who share the same ideals.
Organizations you belong to that might collaborate with Transition
Highland Community School (I would love to develop a partnership here and would love to talk more about it and why Highland is an ideal school to participate if you guys are interested), Urban Ecology Center, Milwaukee Area Time Exchange.

Welcome to Transition Milwaukee.  I am a volunteer at Casa Maria (just down the road from you at Highland Community School) and thought that maybe you might also be interested in joining or coming to the westside group.  We generally meet once a month at the Washington Park Urban Ecology Center - the next meeting is June13th.
